BE THERE, meet
the people, share the knowledge
WWF Mediterranean Programme is delighted to present the Exchange Programme 2002, the second portfolio of environmental expertise exchange opportunities for the Mediterranean region. This programme promotes a highly practical and dynamic exchange of technical and managerial expertise between organisations. We hope that in this way environmental NGOs gain greater experience, skills and information while addressing specific problems or difficulties with the help of other, more experienced entities. Guest participants will learn from firsthand participation in the host’s day to day operations, while contributing knowledge from their own organization. We really hope that such meetings will represent the first step in creating longer-term joint-ventures between the organizations involved. Some of the participants of the 2001 programme have taken this path, and we wish them every success in the future. We are glad to say that so far the experience has proved very fruitful. In 2001, there were 152 applications from 58 environmental organisations in total. 40 representatives out of all the requests– from throughout the Mediterranean - were selected to share expertise with host institutions and other guest participants. The evaluation reports gathered from each of them indicate a high level of objective achievement and satisfaction. The results of the evaluation have also helped us to improve and tune up the second edition of the programme. The most relevant change we have implemented in the Exchanges 2002 is to distinguish between “stages” and “visits”, that is between a short or long exchange. This is explained in detail on page 4. This 2002 portfolio provides the Mediterranean environmental community with a very complete and diverse “catalogue” of good practices in different fields of work. Does your organisation, for instance, need some help in campaigning techniques? Or, perhaps in advocating for water consumption reduction? You may already know a lot about reserve management but you may need some advice concerning monitoring techniques. Think about how much you could increase the success of your project by implementing a participatory approach or promoting local groups. Well, ll this is made possible through the exchange programme - and more: expertise on sustainable forest management, “green jobs” creation, local development promotion, awareness raising and environmental education activities, coastal management, species protection, organisation management, policy and advocacy, eco-tourism, land stewardship or territory protection initiatives, organic farming, reserve management, capacity building, restoration methodologies, new technologies at the service of the environment…the list goes on. What an opportunity to gain new skills! It is obvious that without the participation of each of the organisations involved this programme would not be possible. Hence we would like to deeply thank all of them for their commitment!! Please read carefully the information on how the programme works and how to participate. Each proposed exchange includes information about the host organization, the specific objectives of the exchange, and the activities the guest will participate in. The proposal also explains the requirements for the applicant and, very importantly, the deadline for applications. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and invite you to contact us if you have any questions. As you see the programme is an exchange platform where YOU the environmental organizations ARE THE ACTORS! By working together we can make a real difference. Let's do so! All the best, Marc Sanjuán
